Vintage Orphan Photo # 67 Cars Dapper Dressed Man and Boy and Coffee Shop Sign

Here is a great old photo I picked up at an estate sale some time ago. I am guessing it is from the 1930's. Pictured is one car with what looks like two women sitting in the front seat. Standing out side in their best clothes is a young man and young boy. Both are wearing hats. Parked next is another car showing only part of it.

In the back ground is a building with a sign over the door. With a magnifying glass I can read that it says coffee shop.

There is no name or notation of where this was taken. Back has marks showing that it came out of a photo album

I love old photos and hope that you enjoy this one.

Please take a moment and look at some of my other old photos.. Grace

Vintage Real Photo Postcard Three Men in Car

This is a great vintage Real Photo Postcard I bought at an estate sale some time back. Three handsome young men are pictured sitting in a car. Best part is they are identified. Driving the car is Allan Livar , in the back seat is Frank Montagel and Jack Thenel. The writing of their last name is hard to read so hope that the names are spelt correctly.
This is postmarked February 16 1914 from Atlanta Ga.
This is addressed to Miss N. M. Williams of Jacksonville Florida.
Written is The boy on the seat with me is my roommate. The other is a friend of mine from Meridian. Jack

My First Multi Media Art Vintage Photo, Lace and Jewelry

This is my first attempt at multi media art and I think it is kind of pretty. I found a vintage book at a library sale and took the cover as my back ground. To this I have glued vintage lace, faux pearls, an old rhinestone pin and vintage key found at the flea market. Main part of the art work is this old photo of a beautiful young woman. Here hair is parted and in waves. Around her neck is a large ruffle. She looks kind of sad to me.

I found a piece of an old poem ... " The world is empty in my heart; in my heart I feel my lifelong lonliness.

Plan to put this in my case at the antique mall soon for sale.

Lesson from a 62 year old lady.. Listen to body and go to doctor

My voice has been quite the last couple of weeks. Reason is I was very sick. Started on the 13th my 62nd birthday ( happy birthday to me ) . Started to have pain in my groin area. I am a stubborn lady and thought I had pulled a muscle. I am not very active so not sure how I could of done this. I laid in bed taking Tylenol for 1 week with ice packs.
Finally got some sense and got out of bed. Went to urgent care, emergency room next and into the hospital. Next day I was in surgery and found I had an infection. Just the luck of the universe I guess. I spent 11 days in the hospital on pain pills and antibiotics. I am now home with a wound vac and will be like this for 2 to 3 weeks with going to out patient for wound changes three times a week.

I am sharing this adventure to hopefully be a lesson to others. I hope that you are not as stubborn as I am and if not feeling well do not wait a week thinking all will be better. I was very ill with infection going down my leg. I am glad I went in when I did and had the brilliant young doctor's I had.

So dear friends in blog land and face book. Listen to your body and go to doctor if not feeling perfect.
And thank you to my family for visiting and for the little voices of my grandchildren who could not visit telling me " I love you grandma, get well" Nothing better than hearing those words.
I am glad to be home. Grace

Here are five pretty vintage photos I found this Labor Day weekend at the Flea Market.

The first one is of the SS Wayne Duluth Superior Harbor

next is Silver Creek Cliff and Lake Shore Drive Along Lake Superior Historical Plaque in Left Foreground Sheer Above Gitchee Gumee. Silver Creek Cliff, 30 miles north of Duluth, 4 miles beyond Two Harbors,on the famous North Shore Drive is one of the most spectacular features of the entire drive. The highway cuts a deep notch in the shoulder of the rock cliff, with Lake Superior straight down below you , and the sheer rock rising straight above you.

last is Gooseberry Falls and River Minnesota Scenic North Shore Drive .. here is one of the many waterfalls on the Scenic North Shore Drive, located in the Gooseberry State Park about 40 miles north of Duluth.

Here are two more vintage photos .. .. they are of Tower Ave and Patterson Park both in Superior Wisconsin

Manitou Falls Patterson State Park Superior Wisconsin

and Tower Avenue , Looking North Superior Wisconsin this view shows the business district of this thriving Wisconsin city, where are located the various modern and up to date retail stores.

Weekend Finds In Duluth

We just moved back to Duluth Minnesota after 20 years. Sadly there are not garage sales year round because of the cold weather but we will still have our share of estate sales.

This last weekend we were able to find two sales and I found this wonderful photo of a darling dapper young man. It is printed on a real photo post card that is unused. This post card is from the early 1900's and since there are no markings I have no hint of where he lived or who he would be.

He sure is a cutie

I also found some pictures to sell on ebay this one is my favorite. I do not know where it is from but shows the firemen and the building they just put a fire out and sure looks cold by seeing the ice on the building. ...

Loving Vintage Paper.. Meet Ida M Friend a Millinery Shop Owner of 1909

I love vintage paper as I have said more than once. Every time I visit an estate sale or antique store that is where I end up. I love something different and this is one of my treasures I found lately.

It is a vintage post card advertising a Full and Complete line of Seasonable Millinery owned by Ida M Friend of Clearwater Minnesota. It is postmarked Mar 25 1909 Clearwater and addressed to Mrs Amy Erickson of Annandale Minnesota.

I went to http://www.ancestry.com/ and searched for Ida. In the April 1880 census Ida is 20 years old. In 1900 she can be found in Wright Minnesota and would be about 40 years old. Last time I found her is the 1930 census and she is in Oakland California and occupation is listed as a private home address.

I have no idea if this picture is of Ida in one of her outfits but I like to think it is. Her the young lady is dressed to go fishing. How cute she is.

I have other postcard that have been mailed to the Friend family in my collection. They are Christmas cards mailed to the Friend family who were living in Illinois in the early 1900's. View them at http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=4127199388190162153
Hope that you enjoyed seeing one of my favorite treasures. I am planning to use this in a future project. Thanks for stopping by.. Grace

ESTATE Sale FINDS on this JULY 4th Weekend

Holiday week end and not a lot of estate sales close by.. Hubby did find one that was within 25 miles so we map quested it and off we went. Sadly it was the last day... 50 percent off but hardly anything left to find.

This is some kind of white rock, does not appear to be crystals.

Work with family is getting in the way of my searching for treasures. We leave Texas in about 3 weeks and will move to Minnesota.

I will start to collect social security at 62, I will be able to spend more time hunting then and working more my own hours.

Here are my finds from this weekend. Not much and not sure what I will do with them once I move to Minnesota.

2 old railroad spikes, vintage clothes pins, broken metal tea pot and crummy old measuring spoons.

I just received in the mail a book I found on ebay. I had heard about" Secrets of Rusty Things " by Michael de Meng at another blog. I have started to read it and find it so intriquing. His comments on the side are even fun to read.

Ideas are wandering around and I am jotting them down and who knows what will come of these ideas in the future.

Well till later, have a fantastic 4th of July and stay safe.. Please watch out for wandering fireworks and drinkers on the road. ..... Grace

For The Love Of Junk and Other Treasures

I have always been drawn to vintage paper, postcards and old photos.
Earlier this week I went to check out one of my favorite blogs, from there I wandered to one of her favorites and I found a treasure of a blog. Some one who not only loves old photos but she is also drawn to old junky treasures. What she does with these treasures is very unusual. Some will love it and some will say " Huh".
Well I was intriqued. So intriqued that I have wandered around her site off and on several times this week.
She mentioned a book she read and loved " Rusty Things " by Michael DeMeng. I just had to go and find a used copy today. Hopefully I will receive it next week.
I look forward to giving this new "to me" craft a try real soon.
Take a moment and check out her site if you like at small-stories-studio

And of course had to check out an antique store yesterday to see if I could find anything of interest ... and this is what I found. Two wonderful old photos, vintage slate chalk board and some old checkers.

Have the start of an idea and lots of great photos to look through. Tomorrow there is an auction in Rosenberg.. just may find something there. If not lots of antique stores to wander around.

Glad you stopped by, I hope that you will take a moment peek at some of my past postings... Grace

Vintage Thingie Thursday Sharing Some Vintage Bling

Have not been around for Vintage Thingie Thursday for a bit.. work getting in the way and we have decided to leave HOT Texas for COLD Minnesota which is really home to us. We leave in about 6 weeks so I have been busy working, packing and trying to sell some of my books ( we have a part time book business on eBay) . Anything I can sell fast we do not have to move or get rid of.

Back to Vintage Thingie Thursday. Here is a cute little picture I put together. Have not been into crafts for some time and thought I would give it a little try again.

Everything used is vintage in this piece. The frame belonged to my grandparents and there was an old picture in it once. I replaced the old picture with a vintage ad for McLaughlin's Coffee and then some vintage jewelry pieces was glued to the frame.

Just about done... and will be putting in a sale some day..

Hope that you all have a great Vintage Thingie Thursday and visit others at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/2010/06/vintage-thingie-thursday-vintage.html

Orphan Photo # 65 Vintage CDV Husband and Wife

Here is another vintage CDV of a husband and wife. Sadly there is no name or location to tell us who they were.

They are dressed in their best clothes and he looks to be slightly older than her. This nice photo is probably from the late 1890's to early 1900's.
