For The Love Of Junk and Other Treasures

I have always been drawn to vintage paper, postcards and old photos.
Earlier this week I went to check out one of my favorite blogs, from there I wandered to one of her favorites and I found a treasure of a blog. Some one who not only loves old photos but she is also drawn to old junky treasures. What she does with these treasures is very unusual. Some will love it and some will say " Huh".
Well I was intriqued. So intriqued that I have wandered around her site off and on several times this week.
She mentioned a book she read and loved " Rusty Things " by Michael DeMeng. I just had to go and find a used copy today. Hopefully I will receive it next week.
I look forward to giving this new "to me" craft a try real soon.
Take a moment and check out her site if you like at small-stories-studio

And of course had to check out an antique store yesterday to see if I could find anything of interest ... and this is what I found. Two wonderful old photos, vintage slate chalk board and some old checkers.

Have the start of an idea and lots of great photos to look through. Tomorrow there is an auction in Rosenberg.. just may find something there. If not lots of antique stores to wander around.

Glad you stopped by, I hope that you will take a moment peek at some of my past postings... Grace

Vintage Thingie Thursday Sharing Some Vintage Bling

Have not been around for Vintage Thingie Thursday for a bit.. work getting in the way and we have decided to leave HOT Texas for COLD Minnesota which is really home to us. We leave in about 6 weeks so I have been busy working, packing and trying to sell some of my books ( we have a part time book business on eBay) . Anything I can sell fast we do not have to move or get rid of.

Back to Vintage Thingie Thursday. Here is a cute little picture I put together. Have not been into crafts for some time and thought I would give it a little try again.

Everything used is vintage in this piece. The frame belonged to my grandparents and there was an old picture in it once. I replaced the old picture with a vintage ad for McLaughlin's Coffee and then some vintage jewelry pieces was glued to the frame.

Just about done... and will be putting in a sale some day..

Hope that you all have a great Vintage Thingie Thursday and visit others at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/2010/06/vintage-thingie-thursday-vintage.html

Orphan Photo # 59 Vintage Tin Types Family in Hats

Great vintage tin type photo of an unidentified family. Appears to be two brothers and a sister. All are dressed in their best clothes and wearing hats.

The young man on the left appears to be the youngest of the three and probably a little shorter than his brother. His hat stands up higher so he looks to be the same height.

The young lady is dressed in a blouse and skirt or dressed with embrodery trim on skirt at the lower edge.

This is probably from the late 1800's to early 1900's.

The photo identifies the first lady as Fanny Swayer . There is writing on the back in pencil that I can not make out sadly. , . I have other pictures of her posted recently.. take a peek if you like.

Orphan Photo # 52 Bride and Groom Wedding Photo CDV from Sweden

Orphan Photo # 51 is a beautiful vintage CDV wedding photo. Sadly there is no name listed on it. Photographer is Ida Harckner, Malung.
What a beautiful bride in her veil to the floor.I love vintage wedding photos and to see the change in style of wedding dresses.
The groom appears to be a few years older than the bride.
I would date this to the early 1900's or very late 1890's.

Did a google search and found this little bit of information on Malung, Sweden. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malung

Orphan Photo # 49 Vintage Photo Poses Early 1900's Cute Man in Hat

I love these old photos where there is 4 different poses in a row. This one is of a handsome gentleman dressed in his best suit. His shirt has a wide collar and he is wearing a colorful tie. Second photo he is wearing a hat. What do we know about him? Not much really. Probably in early 20's , probably is a business man or works in an office from the clothing.

Sadly we have no name written on the photo or even know where it is taken. Looking at the chair in the back ground I am guessing this photo is from the early 1900's.
I remember these from the 1950's. You would go into this photo booth. Put in your money and get four different poses.
Some where I have an old photo of my sister and me taken in the 1950's. We are wearing coats and scarfs on our head. Look like 2 poor little urchins.

One of the photos in my banner is of a darling little girl in several poses. I have several photos of her that I bought at an estates. So sad when people part with their family photos.
Hope that you have enjoyed seeing this wonderful vintage photo. Please stop by again . Grace
