A Christmas Verse For You

Christmas is creeping up on us. Time to spend time with our love ones and think of our family far away or who have past on. Many Christmas's have past for me. 61 one to be exact. Lots of wonderful memories and some not so great.
Times are good today. Money is tight, but we have our health ( cancer free 5 years ) ( sober 2 years 10 months and 20 days thank you Jesus) Hubby is well, children are doing pretty good. As in many cases money is tight for them too, but we have it so much better than a lot of folks around us. We are warm, have a place to sleep and food to feed our bellies. I want to take this time to be thankful for all I have and to pray for those still suffering with no place to sleep, hungry, out of work and what ever disease they are suffering from.
I want to thank all of you who visit me at my different blogs. You may not comment often but I do sense you there and hope that I give you some joy or a just a smile.
God bless you and have a wonderful Christmas and lets pray for peace and a prosperous year for all of us.
Today's vintage post card is a Christmas Verse .
Here's a Christmas Message packed with cordial good cheer
To friends, one and all, far and near, Of Peace on earth, good will I send
A loving message to you , dear friend

Forgotten Photo # 28 Tin Type of Beautiful Woman Wearing A Cross

Here is another vintage tin type photo. This one is of a beautiful young woman. Her hair is done up and she is wearing a cross around her neck. She has a scarf around her neck also. I do not remember any of my other vintage photos having a cross around the ladies neck. Interesting, I will have to watch for other's posing with their cross.

Tin type is in a paper frame and the tin type is scratched sadly. I love these old tins. I probably bought this while I was living in Minnesota. No markings to tell me where she lived or who she was.

Thanks for stopping by...

Forgotten Photo # 26 Beard Gentleman ? identified

This cabinet photo that is of a middle age man with a mustache and curly hair in probably his best suit. Came out of a photo album I bought some time ago. There was a name written in the photo album in pencil but hard to know what his name may really be. Looks like W W Warnard. Nothing on the photos identifies where or who photographed.

This is one of many orphan photos I have bought to sell on eBay either to collectors or better yet a family member. http://stores.ebay.com/TurnAbout01

Chistmas Memories My Mother and Grandma's Vintage Brooch

Christmas time always brings back memories of family members who have passed on. During the last years of my mother's life money was tight so instead of buying us gifts she would give us treasured belongings of hers. She always felt it would be nicer to give a new gift but I always told her this meant so much more to me. How I looked forward to Christmas to see what she had picked out for me. This is my most prized treasure from my mother.

It is a vintage pin broach and came packed in a older Sarah Coventry box with a note. It is surly not Sarah Coventry. The note in my mom's hand writting says

" This is a Pin or Brooch I bought for mama about 1942. Paid about $12.00 ( whole weeks wages and tips ha!) "

Pin is missing a few rhinestones but so beautiful and is very heavy.

Hope that you have enjoyed reading my story and seeing my mama's pin that she gave to my grandma.

Happy Vintage Thingies Thursday . Be sure to visit others at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/2009/12/vintage-thingies-thursday-vintage_09.html

Vintage Thingies Thursday Bless This House Prayer

Tonight for Vintage Thingies Thursday I am sharing an old religious plaque that hung in my mother's kitchen. I now have it hanging over my kitchen sink.

I then made one to hang in my bedroom.

It has pink flowers as the background and is framed in white. Very feminane looking.
Says
Bless This House
Bless this house, O Lord We Pray,
Make It Safe By Night And Day;
Bless These Walls, So Firm And Stout,
Keeping Want And Trouble Out,
Bless The Roof And Chimney Tall;
Let Thy Peace Lie Over All;
Bless This Door, That It May Be
Ever Wide To Welcome Thee.

She is sharing about a vintgage Christmas Tree. I spotted one today at a thrift store. I may have to go and check it out tomorrow to see the condition and price.

Vintage School Photo 1894 Cute Children

This is a wonderful old photo of school children from 1894 that I found at an antique store recently. It is so sad that some one did not keep this within there family.

Photo is faded, but still can make these cute faces. Back of photo says

Felton first grade Jordy school Houston Mar 15 1894.

I have not been able to find if there was a school called Felton or if that is Jordy last name.
I will be offering for sale and hopefully find someone who knows an ancestor that may be in this photo or someone who collects vintage photos of children.

Vintage Thingies Thursday and Memories of Past Thanksgivings

Today for Vintage Thingies Thursday I am sharing memories of Thanksgiving. As a child I loved Thanksgiving dinner. It was all about going to grandpa Bill and grandma Grace's house and meeting up with cousins, am uncle and two aunts.

Dinner was simple but fantastic. The table had a white table cloth that grandma had ironed with one of those old mangles.

We had her best china on the table and in the center were these little candles. Two turkeys and a little pilgrim. With them was this little tee pee. Grandma had this old miniture skunk for some reason in her china cabinet.

Every Thanksgiving she would have every thing so perfect. I would find this old skunk and stick it in the teepee.

The fun was waiting to see how long it would take her to see her perfect table now had this old ratty skunk sticking out of the teepee. She would always say " Oh Grace"
Later years there was a little ghost on the table. But that is another story.

My grandparents are gone, parents have past on, my uncle Don is gone and Aunt Daisy is with them. All that is left is my Aunt Lil and us cousins. Of course we now are grandparents and hopefully 50 years from now our children will have wonderful memories of Thanksgivings.
Have a great vintage Thingie Thursday. Visit others or maybe even join us at

Postmortem Cabinet Photo # 2 Parker Children from Vermont

Here is another postmortem cabinet photo in my vintage photos. This one is sad since it is of two young children. This poor family lost two children at or near the same time.

Makes me think of my great great grandparents Betsey and Dwight Day who lost 3 children to scarlet fever within a months time.

Top of photo in back written in pencil is Parker children Bradford Vermont. The Photographer was Bracy of Wells River Vermont.

The children appear to be little boys about a year or two apart. I will be putting this picture up for sale in my eBay store. May link up to a distant family member some day.
Thanks for stopping by... Have a great day... Grace

Postmortem Cabinet Photo of Mr. Templeton

A treasure from the past are cabinet photos, but this is a different type of cabinet photo. It is a postmortem photo.
They are telling us that this person has past on. They would take a previous cabinet photo and enclose it in falling leaves or another design to tell that they had died.
This one I picked up at an estate sale here in the Houston Texas area.
Appears to be a young man either in late teens or early 20's.
No mention of photographer.
Back of photo in light pencil is written what looks like H W Templeton.

Thrift Store Finds Shared on Vintage Thingies Thursday

Look what I found this week while hunting for things to sell on eBay. This cute little Longeberger Basket that is perfect for keys, bath soaps or what ever. Dated 1987 ... not real old but collectible to those who love Longeberger.

What did I pay you ask? 38 cents that is all. Unbelievable thrift store and find. First I thought I would sell on eBay and figure I can get about $9.99, then thought about one of my daughter in laws who loves Longeberger baskets.

So for the holidays will give it to her with maybe some nice body lotion displayed in it. Posted and printed a coupon for Bath and Body Works on my other blog site. http://couponloversunite.blogspot.com/2009/11/1000-off-30-at-bath-and-body-works.html

This week end I will find a Bath and Body Work store, see what is on sale and get some of my holiday shopping started.
Will be a smart frugal holiday and I am off to a great start with this basket and coupon at Bath and Body Works.

Vintage Real Postcards of Girls Wearing Eye Glasses

Today was a " Lets Go Antiquing " day. My quest was for vintage postcards and photos of interest to me and others to tell you about and to sell on eBay.

I found several wonderful items today, I am starting with 3 vintage real photo postcards all are of young women wearing glasses.

I rarely find a vintage photo with someone wearing glasses and today I found three all at the same Antique store and same dealer.

First photo is of three beautiful young women the youngest with a big bow in her hair. This is the only one identified and is marked Myrtle, Floy and Violet.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360203976461&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
Second post card is two young women probably sisters. I am guessing this is from the late 1910's or 1920's by their clothing. This one is also foreign, stamp area is marked differently and Post card is marked Carte Postale. Probably from France or French / Canadian.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360203976451&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
Third post card is of a woman a little older but not old. She is dressed in her best coat and gloves. She is also wearing a great hat with some decoration on the side probably a flower and high top shoes.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360203976446&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT
All three post cards are unused and in good condition. The old saying is " Men Don't Make Passes At Girls Wearing Glasses " but I am guessing all these ladies at passes made at them. They are all simply adorable.

I hope that you enjoyed tonight's post and come back to see other treasures I found today. Quite a few of them are vintage Thanksgiving and Christmas Post cards and will be posted on my other site http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=4127199388190162153

Vintage Tea Set for Vintage Thingies Thursday

Another Thursday to share our treasures. My home is full of treasures of my family, from pictures to letters. Vintage glass, china , plagues proclaiming their belief in God to a Guardian Angel watching over us.

Today for Vintage Thursday Thingies I am sharing a tea set that belong to my mama when she was a child. One year at Christmas she gave this to me as my gift. How I treasure it and have it sitting out on a shelf so I can see it daily.

Mama was born February 1922 so this tea set is probably from the late 1920's

I hope that you enjoy seeing this treasure of mine.. have a great day.

Check out more treasures at http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/.

I would love to hear from you and try to post to others blogs. It is always so nice to know someone was looking.

Treasures In Old Letters From Family Members

Some special treasures are old letters. Tonight I am going through old letters from family members.

There are letters my dad's mother wrote to him. She will get cancer and pass away within a couple of years.

There are letters written by my mother to her mother. She is sharing she is not feeling well and is scared. There is polio going around. This is in 1952 and she would get polio.

Letters that grandma wrote home while visiting my mom after she got polio. Included was a letter I wrote to her husband, my grandpa. Of course I am 4 years old and it is not possible to make it out what I wrote to dampa.

Along with these letters are the envelopes with addresses, this way we can see where my mom and dad were living in Texas during this period of time.

These treasures are from the 1940's to the mid 1950's. I am putting into mylar pages and including the envelopes. This will keep them safe for future generations.
Always sad to see old letters, cards and postcards thrown away or sold at estate sales. This if great family history that should be treasured.

Vintage Thingies Thursday Wonderful Family Albums

For Vintage Thingies Thursday I am sharing another of my priced treasures. It is vintage family photo albums. I have a total of three but will have to share with my sister and 2 cousins. They are not completely full but do have some wonderful pictures of family.

This one is the prettiest of the three. The pictures are from my mother's mother's side of the family. I have not worked hard enough on searching and recording this side of the family so that is a project for the near future. This side is very difficult. I am at a dead end of my grandma 's father. All I have is a picture and a census of who they may be. The other side of the family came from Ireland in the 1850's so am stuck at that point.

Hope that you enjoy seeing this album , they are available in antique stores but are expensive. Watch for them at small estate sales , eBay or local auctions to hold your vintage pictures

Orphan Photo #19 Racine Wisconsin Lady

It is so sad to find wonderful old vintage photos with no names on them. This one is an older lady from the Racine Wisconsin area.

Back of photo has photographer's name as Thomas , College ave between twelfth and thirteenth Racine Wisconsin.

Her dress appears to maybe be 3 pieces, a skirt, blouse and looks like a vest over the blouse. There are a light color or white material at sleeve edge and neckline so probably another piece of clothing underneath. Around her neck is a thin tie with white trim in the middle to probably match the collar and neck line. She is wearing a small ring on her left hand.
Sadly this is all I know from this photo.

The Treasures We Find At A Thrift Store

Saturday hubby and I did one of our favorite things. That is to go searching for treasures to sell on the Internet. We have sold on eBay for years to supplement our income. Well I think that I found a couple of fun items. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360197543159

First one is this retro Ice Bucket/ Tub in a gold / yellow color. It is made by Thermos and is in the shape and design of a drum.

Appears to be in good shape with no cracks or chips. Light soiling. Great addition to a family room or bar area. Also would be fun for a 50's to 60's party theme.

Cocktail parties were very popular during that time. Rather than hanging out in a bar or a club you would have your friends over for drinks, snacks and games.

Always a thrill when walking through a thrift store and finding something unusual on a shelf.

I will be telling you about another treasure in a day or so. Hopefully I will find some one looking for this retro item for their home.

Have a great week and thank you for stopping by. Grace

Today's posting is on a vintage CVD Card also known as a calling card. It is of a darling little child. Probably a girl. Wearing a ruffled dress and shoes with what looks like a decoration on them. Her hair is fairly short with small curls. Posed perfectly on a beautiful chair.

Sadly there is no name on this picture. Was Photographed by Ensiminger Brothers of Independence, Iowa.

There is some wear on the front and loss of front layer of coloring on upper right corner.

Orphan Photos # 5 to 8 Tin Type Pretty Females

This is a group of 4 pretty young women from my collection of Tin Type Photos.
Sadly their was no indication of who any of them are. I probably bought these while I lived in Minnesota.
Tintypes were produced in the USA from 1856 and became popular from the 1860s. They remained popular into the 1900s and as late as the 1920s.
They are poorer quality and harder to see the detail.
Photographers usually worked outside at fairs and carnivals and as the support of the tintype is resilient and does not need drying, instant photographs can be produced only a few minutes after taking the photograph.

Forgotten Orphan Vintage Photos The Beginning

I have always been drawn to vintage photos. It is sad to see them left behind at estate sales. This blog is my chance to share some of my collection with you. It is not large but grows piece by piece. I especially like to collect vintage photos of children and wedding pictures.
These photos may have been forgotten years ago but for today we are remembering these people.

I hope that you enjoy your time at my place on the internet and visit my other sites. My interests vary and this is my chance to share what I enjoy with all of you.

Tonight I am sharing the first of two photos of children that I just bought at an antique store this week here in Texas.
