TREASURES ARE ALL AROUND US ~ VINTAGE HUNTING PHOTOS FOUND

You never know what you will find when you walk into an estate sale.  Yesterday was another Saturday, another day to see what could be found to resell. Some days are just difficult to find anything of interest at a good price.
We started Saturday out with helping to serve breakfast to the neighorhood at our church. A good way to spend a little time with those in the neighbor. Good food  and some smiling faces.
After helping to clean up it was off to go to a couple of estate sales in search for treasures.  Times are tough and hunting is tough. Either there is nothing that interests me or the prices are to high to make any money.
First sale was a bust and second sale was pretty much a bust until I spotted an old photo album. Not so old to be antique but the old kind with the metalic pages.  Within this album was over 85 photos some guys enjoying their hunting trips. Lots of pictures of deer and elk alive and dead.  Not the kind of photos I would want to have but I knew instantly that some one may be interested in.  At only a $1.00 I could not go wrong.
Tonight while watching the academy awards I got it ready for auction on eBay. Time will tell if it sells but until then I have hope and I am out only $1.00.

Tomorrow is auction night and if we are not snowed in I hope that I will find a treasure or two
Thanks for stopping by to see what treasure I have found. Grace

Orphan Photo # 98 MEET JAMES MURRAY HUMPHREY 1916 Sepia Saturday

I have so many old family photos of my own, but I am at an estate sale or antique store and I come across a picture like this I just have to have it.

Hopefully I will find the family it belongs to. Someone who will treasure this wonderful picture as it deserves.
What an adorable photo with cute hair cut, small smile and sitting on a wonderful old bench.
On the back of the photo is written
For Aunt Sue from James Murray Humphrey age eighteen months four days November 9th 1916.

I am assuming that this means the photo was taken on this date which would mean he was born may 5th 1915.

I went to ancestry and found what I believe is his obituary. I will be doing more research on him this afternoon. Obituary dated 22nd of Jan 2004
Navy veteran James Murray Humphrey, 88, of 1536 Meadowlark Drive, died of natural causes Thursday at Peace Hospice.
A private family memorial service will be held Thursday. Schnider Funeral Home is handling cremation and arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth S. Humphrey, of Great Falls; a daughter, Jean Kaimakliotis of London, England; sons James Humphrey and Mark Humphrey of Great Falls; granddaughters Katie and Hayley Kaimakliotis; and grandsons Andrew and Luke Humphrey.
James was born May 5, 1915, in Fosston, Minn., to James L. and Elva M. Humphrey. He graduated from Great Falls High School in 1933 and from Dartmouth College in 1937.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Dec. 8, 1941, and served as an ensign in communications at Pearl Harbor throughout the Second World War.
He and Elizabeth Schneiderhan were married in San Francisco on May 17, 1943. At the end of World War II, he assumed operation of the James L. Humphrey farm management business in Great Falls and continued in that livelihood through most of his career. He built a ranch in Chouteau County, which occupied his energies in his later years.
James enjoyed hiking, his cabin in the Sun River Canyon, and the outdoors. He was an avid reader of history, political economy and fiction. He promoted the philosophy of free markets and individual liberty, and sponsored students who attended educational seminars at the Foundation for Economic Education.
As a member of the Dartmouth College Alumni Council during the '50s and '60s, he actively recruited aspiring high school students from across Montana to attend Dartmouth College. He was a 50-year Mason at Cascade Lodge No. 34, a life member of the Scottish Rite, and a lifelong member of the Great Falls Rotary Club. Throughout his life he was a Christian Scientist.

I am offering this beautiful photo to family members for $10.00 plus shipping. This will reinburs me for my purchase and time hunting and reuniting family photos. I am also leaving messages at http://www.ancestry.com/ about the photo. If you can help reunite this photo and family please email me at www.booklady01@aol.com

I will be sharing this at Sepia Saturday

Sepia Saturday Orphan Photo # 72 of Darling Young Child From Minnesota

Today's posting of an Orphan Photo is a sweet looking darling young child from St. Paul Minnesota. I bought this at an estate sale some years ago.
Photographer is S M Taylor of West 7th Street.

I think this is a young girl but with the short hair is hard to be sure. Dressed in a very nice dress with large lacy collar. Around the neck is a small cross.

What a doll. Sadly there is no name on the back to identify this young child. Take a look at the back to see how beautifully it is designed.

I am posting for the first time at Sepia Saturday.. You can visit others at http://sepiasaturday.blogspot.com/2010/11/sepia-saturday-week-48.html for more vintage photos.

I hope that you enjoy my vintage photos and will let me know you have visited. Please take a moment before you leave to see some of my other vintage photos.

Thanks Grace

Vintage Orphan Photo # 67 Cars Dapper Dressed Man and Boy and Coffee Shop Sign

Here is a great old photo I picked up at an estate sale some time ago. I am guessing it is from the 1930's. Pictured is one car with what looks like two women sitting in the front seat. Standing out side in their best clothes is a young man and young boy. Both are wearing hats. Parked next is another car showing only part of it.

In the back ground is a building with a sign over the door. With a magnifying glass I can read that it says coffee shop.

There is no name or notation of where this was taken. Back has marks showing that it came out of a photo album

I love old photos and hope that you enjoy this one.

Please take a moment and look at some of my other old photos.. Grace

My First Multi Media Art Vintage Photo, Lace and Jewelry

This is my first attempt at multi media art and I think it is kind of pretty. I found a vintage book at a library sale and took the cover as my back ground. To this I have glued vintage lace, faux pearls, an old rhinestone pin and vintage key found at the flea market. Main part of the art work is this old photo of a beautiful young woman. Here hair is parted and in waves. Around her neck is a large ruffle. She looks kind of sad to me.

I found a piece of an old poem ... " The world is empty in my heart; in my heart I feel my lifelong lonliness.

Plan to put this in my case at the antique mall soon for sale.

Thanks for stopping by... Grace

Vintage Photos of Duluth and Lake Superior Area and Superior Wisconsin

Here are five pretty vintage photos I found this Labor Day weekend at the Flea Market.

The first one is of the SS Wayne Duluth Superior Harbor

next is Silver Creek Cliff and Lake Shore Drive Along Lake Superior Historical Plaque in Left Foreground Sheer Above Gitchee Gumee. Silver Creek Cliff, 30 miles north of Duluth, 4 miles beyond Two Harbors,on the famous North Shore Drive is one of the most spectacular features of the entire drive. The highway cuts a deep notch in the shoulder of the rock cliff, with Lake Superior straight down below you , and the sheer rock rising straight above you.

last is Gooseberry Falls and River Minnesota Scenic North Shore Drive .. here is one of the many waterfalls on the Scenic North Shore Drive, located in the Gooseberry State Park about 40 miles north of Duluth.

Here are two more vintage photos .. .. they are of Tower Ave and Patterson Park both in Superior Wisconsin

Manitou Falls Patterson State Park Superior Wisconsin

and Tower Avenue , Looking North Superior Wisconsin this view shows the business district of this thriving Wisconsin city, where are located the various modern and up to date retail stores.

These establishments serve this progressive city with a population of over 35,000.

These 5 vintage photos will be put in my booth at the Antique Mall here in Duluth Minnesota on Canal Park for $20.00. If interested contact me through the comments. I take pay pal.

Thanks for stopping by.. Grace

For The Love Of Junk and Other Treasures

I have always been drawn to vintage paper, postcards and old photos.
Earlier this week I went to check out one of my favorite blogs, from there I wandered to one of her favorites and I found a treasure of a blog. Some one who not only loves old photos but she is also drawn to old junky treasures. What she does with these treasures is very unusual. Some will love it and some will say " Huh".
Well I was intriqued. So intriqued that I have wandered around her site off and on several times this week.
She mentioned a book she read and loved " Rusty Things " by Michael DeMeng. I just had to go and find a used copy today. Hopefully I will receive it next week.
I look forward to giving this new "to me" craft a try real soon.
Take a moment and check out her site if you like at small-stories-studio

And of course had to check out an antique store yesterday to see if I could find anything of interest ... and this is what I found. Two wonderful old photos, vintage slate chalk board and some old checkers.

Have the start of an idea and lots of great photos to look through. Tomorrow there is an auction in Rosenberg.. just may find something there. If not lots of antique stores to wander around.

Glad you stopped by, I hope that you will take a moment peek at some of my past postings... Grace

Orphan Photo # 47 Little Girls And Their Dolls .... A Glimpse Of The Past .. Vintage Thingies Thursday

I found this photo recently at an antique store to resell on eBay. It has two darling little girls in their winter coats and hats holding their new dolls

Back of photo says " Our " twins " Everybody thinks they are. With two of the dolls they got for Christmas. Norma calls them creepy dolls ... she means sleepy doll.

No other identification but what do we know?

One little girl's name is Norma

They are not really twins

They live some where cold enough for coats and hats

They are wearing shoes that look like they are from the early 1900's

The little girl on the left appears to be wearing glasses

The building on the right looks like it is either a large house or their are two houses real close together. Their is a fence at the front of one of them.

I found these at an antique store in the Houston Texas area but who knows where the photo is really taken
Happy Vintage Thingies Thursday.. you can visit other posts by going to http://coloradolady.blogspot.com/2010/02/vintage-thingies-thursday-celebration.html

Orphan Photo # 36 of Mother and Child

This is another wonderful old photo I bought some time ago. It is from 1931 and marked mary and Jean. What a beautiful baby and the women is so pretty. Her hair has wavy curls of that time period. I bought several photos of this child at one estate sale including wedding photos. All I remember now is that they were from Georgia.

Always is so sad when families do not keep their photos. Hope that you have enjoyed seeing this wonderful photo from 1931.
