Sepia Saturday 10/20/12 VINTAGE ORPHAN PHOTO # 116 WW1 SOLDIER RPPC

Todays Orphan photo is of young man in his uniform. This is a real photo post card from WWW1. He so young and cute and hair cut really short. From Camp Dodge Iowa photographer looks like Mpls Tribune Studio.

  5. The soldier wears canvas leggings that date from 1910 to the start of WW1. They were not practical in the muddy trenches and were changed in 1918 to the British and French style puttees which were a roll of wool tape wrapped around the calf. More info at:

  6. I believe Camp Dodge is where the Iowa National Guard is! I could see the big city of Minneapolis being used as photographer back then! Very interesting!

  7. Like Peter, I first thought he was bald, but he must have had very blond hair. I hope someone knows the soldier in this exceptional photo.
